Another film that I am really looking forward to is Wes Anderson's Moonrise Kingdom. This film just debuted at Cannes and is receiving rave reviews. Anderson is one of my favorite directors, which I have attested to in a previous post here. Thus, I will not go into too much detail about his film history since it is well documented in my previous post.
Moonrise definitely appears to have the typical Anderson aesthetic with fabulous set designs, costumes, and Andersonian quirkiness. I am also excited to see the new additions to his cast of actors as well the appearance of some absolute favorites. I feel a Wes Anderson movie would be incomplete without Bill Murray and Jason Schwarzman. Two newcomers, Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman play the mains in this and are said to be fantastic. Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Tilda Swinton and Francis McDormand round out the cast and I am delighted. This film is chalked full of amazing actors which should make for a fabulous and highly entertaining feature.
The Premise: Set on an island off the coast of New England in the summer of 1965, MOONRISE KINGDOM tells the story of two twelve-year-olds who fall in love, make a secret pact, and run away together into the wilderness. As various authorities try to hunt them down, a violent storm is brewing off-shore -- and the peaceful island community is turned upside down in more ways than anyone can handle. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff. Edward Norton is a Khaki Scout troop leader. Bill Murray and Frances McDormand portray the young girl's parents. The cast also includes Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, and Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the boy and girl.
