She & Him- Don't Look Back

She & Him - Don't Look Back from Merge Records on Vimeo.

Like most semi-hipster retro-loving gals, I do adore Zooey Deschanel. However, I am not entirely sure if I am into She & Him. I think I need to listen to this song a few more times and see if it grows on me. I will say that this video is very cute (like Zooey), creative and the integration of mid-century modern living is a treat.

Amazing Street Photography Discovery

Vivian Maier was a French-American woman who was born in 1926 and died in 2008. She seemed to be a loner who spent much of her life in Chicago, working as a nanny and taking some of the most extraordinary street photographs in her spare time. During her lifetime, she took hundreds of thousands of unpublished photographs. Following her death, a portion of her estate was sold to a young man who made this remarkable discovery and is now in the process of showcasing her work. Maier's photos are so candid and sincere. She beautifully captures life in its many shapes and forms. I think one of the most interesting things about her work is how she has captured societal changes, trends and significant moments in Chicago's history over a number of decades.

A few of my favorites so far:

A news profile on John Maloof, the young man who discovered her photos and is sharing her art with the world:

A slideshow of some of her work:

John Maloof has also created a blog where he posts many of her photos and updates on his progress with promoting Maier's impressive works.

Look I Love: Paris Edition

Normally, I would 'say no' to most jumpsuits, but this girl rocks it beautifully.

A great casual day look.

Not entirely sold on the shoes but the skirt suit is fabulous.

Love her shaggy cropped fur coat.

The outfit makes a case for all-camel as a gorgeous alternative to all-black.

Awesome hair, awesome outfit.

I think this would be just perfect with the collar loosened a little.

Techy Post: How to make you own iPhone ringtones from MP3s

Today I decided that it was probably time to change from my Peanuts Christmas music ringtone on my iPhone. I didn't really want to spend 99 cents or whatever on a new ringtone and also didn't really want to use a standard one. So, I found an awesome video that shows you how to create your own ringtone using songs from your iTunes playlist. I tried it out and it worked great for me! Check it out:

A comment that another viewer made that was helpful is: "who ever follows the instructions & then can’t see it in their iphone Just go to the ringtones tab and select your tones manually & un-check , then re-check them and then sync again. Then it will show up. Other than that, Very easy just follow video. Does work Perfect on the newest version of itunes."

Here is the page link. There are many other comments and suggestions there if you are having any trouble with this.

Pretty Girly Home

This home was recently featured on Design Sponge. There are many elements in this space that appeal to my girly side. I am a huge fan of colour coordinating book shelves. I even tried doing this with my own book shelf. It looked cool for a bit but I think that I did not have enough colours to work with and it was hard to keep up. Maybe I will try again next time we move. Another thing that I would like to try is creating an awesome wall of pictures and photos as seen in this home. I am also smitten with the gorgeous floral fabric that homeowner, Fiona Douglas has carried through the house in pillows, tapestries, framed pictures and lampshades. One other really creative thing that she has done is artfully display a number of different tiles in her bathroom acting as a sort of unattached backsplash. This look is different, pretty and non-committal. I love it!

Look I Love

Ahh, Miss Pandora, you have impressed me once again. I love the combination of the khaki skirt with navy blue tights.
As seen on Pandora.

This look is slightly unkempt, but still so well put together.

I am such a sucker for both capes and stripes. This looks combines two of my favorite things quite successfully. I also really like her fabric hair tie.

This is how denim shorts should be worn...

This is so refreshing to see. I absolutely despise the old, saggy looking denim shorts that so many girls are wearing lately, especially when worn over black tights! This trend is so bad.

Amazing Dorm Room!

It is hard to believe that this is a lowly dorm room. It belonged to Maximilian Sinsteden at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey. This room is a wonderful blend of preppy, cozy, arty and a little bit of pretension...not a bad thing in this case. My favorite elements in this space are:
-the well stocked bar in the corner
-the wall of art work
-the wall of ties...I think this is my favorite. What a great way to display accessories!

I recommend reading the original New York Magazine article about this interesting and creative young man here.

One More for Parenthood Looking Good

Here is one pic that I missed and is well worth sharing!

Look I Love: Menswear

This is a fabulous example of how one can wear denim on denim without looking like you are wearing a Canadian Tuxedo.

Looks I Love

While looking for pics of stylish parents last night, I came across a number of looks that I love. Here are a few:

I found this one on A Cup of Jo. Blogger Joanna Goddard mentions in her post that she would like to integrate heels into her wardrobe more this year. For the past few years, I have been trying to make the same vow and failing miserably. I am only 5'2" and should really try harder. This pic inspires me to shake up my casual outfits with some simple black heels.

I love how casual and carefree she looks while also being so well put together.

Typically I believe that white tights should be limited to little girls, but I think this gal has stylishly worn them without looking juvenile.

Parenthood Looking Good

I will start this post first off by saying that I am not pregnant, nor are we trying at this time. However, the idea of parenthood is becoming a more and more real thing for myself and Will. I am now 29 and will have to bite the bullet and have a baby in the next few years. Since this is in my not-too-distant future, I can't help but think about life with kids. This is also more prominently on the brain since my friends and now my cousin (who is 2 months older than me!) and his wife are procreating. I know this probably sounds really lame but, I don't want to become a 'mom'. You know what I mean...consumed by mommy-only things, letting the rest of my world slide away, and most of all, losing my sense of style. I know that I will probably change my tune when I have a child of my own but for now, I swear I will never...ever wear mom-jeans or an over-sized t-shirt with a kitten or potted flower on it. So, I did some digging and came up with some great examples of parents who have still stayed 'cool'.

As I have stated previously, I absolutely adore nautical stripes. So, I believe that when I do get pregnant, I will need this ASOS dress.

Film I Love: Black Swan

This past weekend, Will and I went to the theater and saw Darren Aronovsky's, Black Swan. This film was beautifully filmed and acted, while the story was twisted and amazing. This film plays with your mind and your emotions, while displaying both the impressive acting skill and physical skill of both Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis. Vincent Cassel as the tough, but seductive company director is also superb further establishing him as one of my favorite male actors. I will not bother to review the whole film but rather say, go see it, experience it for yourself!

On a side note, I absolutely LOVE the posters created for this film. I would love to hang the art deco style ones above my bed!
