Free Outdoor Movies in Victoria
There seems to be a trend to return to the old days of the drive-in movie theatre. Most cities (including Victoria) no longer having a permanent operational drive-in theatre. Now they are setting up inflatable movie screens here in Victoria in the Mayfair Mall parking lot, Beacon Hill Park and Centennial Square. The best part is all the movies are free!
Mayfair Mall started their parking lot drive-in last summer and have brought it back for three Thursdays in August. They will be showing: Top Gun (Aug 5th- last night...sorry), Say Anything (Aug 12th) and Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Aug 19th). Movies start at dusk and the parking gate is open from 6pm-8pm and you have to make sure to pick up a parking pass at the concierge desk in the mall starting on the Saturday before the movie.
The Victoria Film Festival has organized The Free B-Film Festival. This one is not a drive-in so they recommend bringing your own blankets and snacks. The films will start at 9:00pm in Beacon Hill Park on Fridays Saturdays during the month of August with the exception of August 13th and 20th when the films will be shown in Centennial Square. I really want to go to the first night (tonight!) where they will be showing one of my all time favorite movies, Edward Scissorhands.
