To iPhone or not to iPhone...

So, Will and I have been seriously considering jumping on the iPhone bandwagon. However, from my many years spent working the customer service counter at Future Shop, I understand the flaws associated with first run Apple products. So, I am looking for input from iPhone users regarding the pros and cons of this swanky looking device and beg the question: are there any other mobile phones out there that are better?
